Works when: Wix, Squarespace and Shopify are genuinely good now. If you need a few pages and have time to build it yourself, a free website trial will tell you quickly whether it works for you.

Do you actually need a custom website?

Not every small business does, and it is worth saying so before you spend anything.

A website builder is probably enough if…

You need three or four pages, you are not competing for search traffic, and your work comes from word of mouth or a marketplace. Wix or Squarespace will do that for less than we would charge, and we would rather tell you than take the money.

What should a small business website include?

At a minimum: a homepage that says what you do and where you do it, a page per service, an about page, and a contact page with a form that reaches your inbox. Beyond that, the things that actually affect enquiries are fast loading, a layout that works on a phone, and clear next steps on every page.

Should I use a website builder like Wix or Squarespace instead?

For a very simple site with no ambitions in search, a builder is a reasonable choice and cheaper. The trade-offs are limited control over technical SEO, slower pages on the lower tiers, and a template look that competitors in your town are often using too. If organic search matters to your business, a custom build gives you more room.

How long does a small business website take to build?

The build itself is usually a few weeks. What actually sets the date is content: photographs, service descriptions and any legal or compliance wording. We agree a schedule after the discovery call once we know what exists and what has to be written from scratch.

That makes a site eligible to rank. Actually ranking for competitive terms takes ongoing SEO work, which is scoped separately, and we will say so rather than implying a new site ranks by itself.

Can I update the website myself?

Yes. Every build includes a content management system so you can edit text, swap images and add pages without touching code or paying for small changes. If you would rather hand that over, our maintenance plans include content changes each month.
