What is a pay monthly website?

A pay monthly website is a professionally built site you pay for in monthly instalments instead of one large invoice at the start. The design, the build, hosting, the SSL certificate, backups and support are bundled into a single fixed monthly fee.

The model exists because the traditional way of buying a website asks a small business for two to five thousand pounds before it has seen a single enquiry come through. For a trade business, a clinic or a new consultancy, that is often the reason the website never gets built at all.

The trade off is a minimum term. Ours is 12 months, because the build has to be paid for somehow and we are doing it over the term rather than up front. We would rather say that plainly than bury it.

Most UK providers charge between £50 and £250 a month depending on the size of the site and what is bundled in. WebElev8 plans are £75, £150 and £250 a month. The main things that move the price are the number of pages, whether you need e-commerce, and how much ongoing support you want.
Do I own the website?
Yes. After 12 monthly payments the website is yours to keep, including the code and the content we produced for you. If you want to move it elsewhere at that point we will hand over the files and help with the transfer. Your domain name is yours throughout and we will not withhold it.
Is there a minimum contract?
Yes, 12 months from the date your site goes live. That is how the build is funded without an upfront fee: you are spreading the cost of the website across the term rather than paying for it in advance. After the minimum term you can cancel ongoing hosting and support with 30 days notice and there is no exit fee.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. Hosting, SSL, backups and the support included in your plan are covered by the monthly fee. Work outside the scope agreed at the start is quoted before it begins, so you always see a number before we start. Your domain is billed separately by your registrar, usually around £10 to £15 a year.
What happens if I stop paying?
Before the end of the minimum term, the remaining payments fall due, because the site has already been built and delivered. We will always talk to you first rather than pulling a site down without warning. After 12 payments the site is yours, so stopping the plan only ends the hosting and support.
Can I get an online shop on a monthly plan?
Yes. E-commerce sits on the higher plans because there is more to build and more to maintain: product pages, checkout, payment processing and stock. We will tell you which plan your shop needs before you commit, not after.
Is pay monthly more expensive overall than paying upfront?
Over a long enough period, a one-off build plus a separate hosting and maintenance plan can work out cheaper. Pay monthly wins when you would rather keep several thousand pounds in the business now, and when you want hosting, support and fixes included rather than invoiced each time. It is a cash flow decision more than a total cost one, and it is worth doing the sum for your own situation.
